About Muscular
                  Dystrophy Logo, Downriver Michigan

There are many reasons for this page. While there is much information on Muscular Dystrophy on the Internet and various other places. I wanted to provide a place where much of that information could be located easily.

Let me make it perfectly clear that I am neither a doctor or any other type of health care professional. My only knowledge comes from the fact that I have a form of MD called Friedrich's Ataxia. I have spent some time looking for information and possible treatments which I will share with anyone here.

I invite anyone to share any knowledge they may have with visitors to this site. Simply email me

If you read as much as I have from the conventional medical field you tend to lose hope of a treatment or cure.

My feelings are do as much as you can. I never accept what the doctors tell me and I do things they say I can't do. My younger brother never let his condition stop him as long as he could keep going he did and attempted things even I didn't consider.

Do you have a poem or story? Send it here

I'm afraid there was no way to make this short as there is lots of information here. Some may apply to many people and some only to me. I have to make another point here...I use homeopathic remedies, some people have a very difficult time accepting that and if you are one of the people are unwilling to consider them I would suggest that you not even read any further.
I asked the homeopath one day who is helping me what advice I could give people with one of the forms of MD? His answer was "Get to a good homeopath as soon as possible"

This page is for people to express themselves through poetry or whatever means they choose. Many times in order to make a thing make sense you have to give a little background so other people will understand.
Poems
This first couple were written by my sister after my brother passed in Oct of 2002.
You didn't want to leave us,
you fought so hard to stay,
but you knew you'd be better off,
when God called you away.

No more pain or  suffering,
only happiness and joy,
the kind of life you lived,
when you were just a boy.

No more canes or crutches to bear,
only happiness and joy,
you are able to run in the fields,
as you did when you were a boy.

For so long you couldn't tell us,
just what you had to say,
but you told us with your eyes,
that it was far better this way.

I recall the four of us,
when we were young & free,
how we laughed & played & fought,
never dreaming that one day,
their would be only three.

Your courage & strengh amazed me,
how you always carried on,
but mostly how your will to live,
was so very strong.

To mom & dad you were their life,
their reason for going on,
but yet I sit & wonder,
how can they be so strong?

You were their little boy,
so determined & headstrong,
how hard it must have been,
when they realized your strength was gone.

Tears are falling from my eyes,

As I think of how much I love this guy,

Remebering him running, and playing around,

The years that have passed, have brought him down,

Unable to fend or do by himself,

Scares me with all,...that I have left!

Why did I go? I should of come back!

He's not doing good,

 He's not going to last,

The man I love is loosing the fight,

DMD is taking his life!!

Hello my name is Jamie I wrote this poem about myself  I have had md since i was born i am 13 now! Submitted on 9/24/03
Being laughed at on  the playground, being tormented day by day.

These are the things you expierence when you were born with something wrong with you these days.

I didn't do anything to deserve this, it must just be the way I walk.

I wasn't mean to anyone ,but they still treat me like dirt.

Its like they think I don't have any feelings but  what they do to me really hurts.

When I was youger it was bad, kids just wern't nice to me.

Now that I am older my disease has gotten worse.

It is progressing day by day its like a major curse.

I try to be corageous and strong.

but I have been teased for so long!

This was posted on a list I belong to. I have no idea who actually wrote it so if anyone knows I would like to give the author credit. Email me
God: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. I thought I will chat.

Me: I do pray. I am always busy and can't find free time. Life has become hectic.

God: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results. Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?

God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

Me: why are we then constantly unhappy?

God: You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are unhappy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?

God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty.

God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?

God: Good people go through trials, but don't suffer, with that experience their life become better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?

God: Yes. Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can't we be free from problems?

God: Problems Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

Me: We don't know where we are heading.

God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken.
Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?

God: Success is a measure as decided by others.
Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?

God: when they suffer they ask, "why me?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me". Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who I am, why am I here. I can't get the answer.

God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be.
.
Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it.

Me: How can I get the best out of life?

God: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me: Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve.

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Me: How can I get close to you?

God: You are. Stop worrying about it and get on with life. Love all creation - spurn none.
