There are many reasons for this page. While there is much information on Muscular Dystrophy on the internet and various other places. I wanted to provide a place where I could talk about what I have learned about myself.

Let me make it perfectly clear that I am neither a doctor or any other type of health care professional. My only knowledge comes from the fact that I have a form of MD called Friedreich's Ataxia. I have spent some time looking for information and possible treatments which I will share with anyone here.

I invite anyone to share any knowledge they may have with visitors to this site. Simply email me

I'm afraid there was no way to make this short as there is lots of information here. Some may apply to many people and some only to me. I have to make another point here...I use homeopathic remedies, some people have a very difficult time accepting that and if you are one of the people are unwilling to consider them I would suggest that you not even read any further.
I asked the homeopath one day who is helping me what advice I could give people with one of the forms of MD? His answer was "Get to a good homeopath as soon as possible"

I have been working on another site where I have a blog which is one of the reasons these pages have not been updated recently. If you have questions or suggestions please post them there http://www.godstunes.com/blog/?cat=13

These are the symptoms my remedy was based on.
Case May 26 2004
Legs very weak (feels like they can't hold my weight). For that reason I lock my knees. Many times I simply can't bend my knees.

Hyper extend knees when walking or standing.

Tend to fall forward when I stand to pull pants up etc. I try to compensate and sometimes fall backward as a consequence.

It's hard to tell for sure because I use a walker but I get the impression that I kind of go off to the right a little when I walk.

Legs and feet from the knee down feel icy cold (mostly at night when I go to bed), cold enough to be painful many times.

Ankles turn easily (predominate on right).

Sweat at night (forehead, back of neck, underarms and genital area). Underarms feel sticky, genital area is always moist with kind of a sweet smell to it (a sickening sweet smell). NOTE: I can't remember EVER seeing my dad sweat.

Sensitive to cold. Sensitive to odors (I always notice someone's breath) and loud noise (loud music irritates me, that's a problem because my wife has a hearing problem, get a headache from lots of noise).

Have a birthmark on top of left foot (brown color, close to a rectangle shape, about 1 1/2 inches by 1/2 inch, have always had it that I can remember).

Have little red spots covering chest, stomach, upper arms and back (I notice them more on chest and stomach, that is also the area I can see the best). Have had them as long as I can remember (color would be a dark red, strawberry or cranberry color). NOTE: My son has them too.

Have a lot of neck pain (tension or a tight feeling, gets sore and painful at times radiating down into shoulders). Sometimes I also get bad headaches (starting in neck or base of skull, spreading to eyes and temples, could be worse on either side and eyes get very sore). When the headache is really bad I can't eat from nausea, don't urinate as much because I don't drink much (sometimes want something cold to drink but don't have the energy to get up and get it). Have tried both cool and warm compresses over eyes with minimal relief. Don't want to move during these headaches (any kind of movement causes greater pain). Sometimes Silica helps but most times I try to go to sleep and it may ease up. Will start before I get up and last all day, may finally start to ease up by early evening (neck will be very sore and tender afterward).

Get cramps in my hands now and then (fingers draw up and I have trouble stretching fingers out straight). My younger brother had that bad (The doctor's solution...cut the tendons in the fingers...even that didn't help the fingers drawing up or the pain involved).

Get groin pain (seems to be the testicles)...feels like clothes are tight pressing on them or clothes are twisted putting pressure on them.

Ears ring constantly (seems to be louder in right ear most of the time)...never goes away.

Get depressed, worry about finances and it bothers me that there are things I can't do around the house and I don't like depending on someone else to do them, as a consequence I won't ask which means it won't get done then I worry about that too.

Always seem to feel guilty. I take the responsibility for everything even when I know I can't do it I still feel guilty because I can't.

Have trouble going to sleep (mind is always working). Even when I do sleep I'm still extremely tired and even seem to feel worse after sleeping.

Usually drag toes when walking, the times when I'm able to pick feet up I pick them up too high trying to avoid dragging toes.

Stay very tired (could be because it's such an effort to do anything physical).

Get sores on shins from hitting them on things and they sometimes seem to take a long time to heal.

Sometimes I take a sneezing spell (not sure if it's a reaction to something in the air or not). NOTE: My dad does this also, he is very sensitive to chicken feathers and pollen. (When I was visiting recently he started sneezing, runny eyes etc. I gave him Allium Cepa 30c and it cleared up in a couple of minutes).

Balance is very bad. When the legs feel a little stronger than they have been in awhile I still need something to hold onto to give me some stability. Worse in the dark....a little better when I can see where I'm walking. I always said in the dark I can't tell which way is up (I lose my spatial reference). I always tended to try to be near a wall or at least something to touch to help keep my balance.

Feet and legs jerk (either one may do it, mostly at night in bed but sometimes at other times too).

Can't sleep on back (back and legs hurt when I try). Could never sleep on stomach (can't get comfortable and neck hurts). Have to sleep on side with knees pulled up and hand between knees to ease pressure. Feet feel heavy and get ankle pain in bed. Seems easier to get to sleep on right side.

Itch sometimes (don't know if it's an allergic reaction or not). Will be ankles, forearm or stomach usually. Will come in waves (every time I'm almost asleep it will feel like something is biting me, scratching really doesn't help, will burn and itch and get red from scratching). Apis seems to help some (the last time at least).

Get dark circles around eyes. When humidity is high nose gets plugged up and get dry mouth with bad breath.

Tend to feel like an outsider in most situations. Kinda stay to myself, stay home rather than go anyplace because I feel funny having people help me with things and there is some discomfort associated with moving around, sitting and standing, walking etc.

Will sometimes get emotional or tender hearted and prefer to be alone at those times.
